Book Two of The Turquoise Legacy
Flames On the Sky
The Anasazi Indians whispered of this evil. They also whispered of the woman who could defeat it
Madison Evans inherits the antique locket and immediately begins having dreams of fleeing from warriors in a desert. She travels to New Mexico and learns the piece of turquoise dates back to the Chacoan Anasazi around 1000 AD. When her motel room is ransacked, and she's attacked, parks ranger Lonan Stone concludes Madison's piece of turquoise is more than it seems. It's part of the revered Fallen Skystone, an egg size piece of turquoise on display at the Albuquerque Museum of Natural History. The ancient stone, with mystical powers, is missing two slivers, named the twins. One is in Madison's necklace, the whereabouts of the other is unknown. Through her dreams she learns she's the guardian of the necklace and must protect it against those who would use it for evil. The ancient people have given her the name, Hair of Flame. Thrown together, Madison and Lonan, an ancestor of the Chacoan people, learn they're part of a 1000 year old prophecy which must be fulfilled to save the Anasizi heritage in Chaco Canyon, a place of religious importance to all Native Americans in the Four Corners area. As they search for whoever is threatening Madison's life, as history had predicted, they fall in love. Thrust back in time, Madison and Lonan confront a witch, solve a murder, and help destroy a 1000 year old evil spirit bent on revenge against the Chacoan people but will their love be able to survive it's unusual beginnings and the differences in their two cultures?

Depressed school teacher, Lynn Devry, thought she was heading for a relaxing summer vacation. Wrong! She'd been duped by her own daughter. Ocotillo Ranch turned out to be a refuge for troubled youngsters, and she had signed an unread contract to be their Breakfast Bread Baker...and her duties didn't end there. She had to work with the socially deprived kids, swim laps in a coldwater pool, hike the mountainous desert ridges, and learn how to handle and ride a horse. When Dr. Seth Williams first saw the rebellious city-breed baker hired for the summer, he had misgivings. He couldn't help but see she was one troubled lady. So, why was he smitten by her? He was still in love with his ex-wife, the mother of his three sons. Right? Or was he? They had all summer to figure it out.
Review: This is a wonderfully warm story about trust, realizations, and revelations. Every page is wonderfully paced. The characters come alive through this writer's wonderful voice.
A Great Read.

Review: WHEN THE OCOTILLO BLOOM by Linda LaRoque is a sweet relationship story set in west Texas where Lynn Devry goes to work at Seth Williams’s summer camp for troubled teens and finds a whole new way of life. In this sweet contemporary romance, the two learn to discover a love that heals the pains of their past relationships and vow to begin anew. I loved how Lynn thought she was going to work in a relaxed atmosphere at a Dude Ranch, but ends up having to deal with a stern taskmaster at a camp for troubled teens instead. Plenty of conflict and tension to keep the reader reading until the very end!

Review: When the Ocotillo Bloom Linda LaRoque Contemporary romance Available from Wings ePress ISBN: 978-1-59705-235-3 January 2007
Lynn Devry was a divorced, middle-aged, overweight teacher who had just taken a job at a spa ranch where she would be employed 6 hours a day baking bread; the other hours were hers to do as she pleased. Or so she thought! Her daughter and friend, Dr. Art had helped her secure this position. What she did not know was that she was signed (as in contracted) to work at Ocotillo Ranch, a summer camp for troubled kids. Seth Williams, an adolescent psychologist, was fulfilling his life-long dream of running this camp for neglected children. His wife, Barbara, had divorced him seven years ago because she did not like the outback, rural area. To say Lynn was livid when she found out what kind of a camp she was at would be an understatement! She was furious that, not only did she have to live and work with these kids, ages 7 to teen, but she was required to get into shape, starting with water aerobics daily, including 10 laps after each day’s workout. She could hardly walk to the pool house, let alone swim! She refused to stay any longer than it took for Seth to find a replacement which he did not pursue for a long while. Linda LaRoque has done an exceptional job with this story! She shows how two people who start out at such diabolical ends of the spectrum can actually belong together. They each had thoughts on how to conduct themselves and Ms. LaRoque allowed their personalities to merge into a relationship which worked exceedingly well. The supporting characters were many and varied; each played a wonderful part in the overall plot of this book. The interactions with the many children helped mold many actions they found impossible to resist. I found that this unique story was so interesting that I read it straight through. I absolutely could not stop reading until the very end and then wanted to see it continue. I loved this book and recommend it highly!
